Camps Programme

The Camps Programme is for girls in Years 3 to 11.

Ravenswood camps seek to encourage self reliance, group cohesion and the acquisition of specific skills. The camps programme forms part of the school’s pastoral care and offers an important alternative to traditional classroom learning, rather than simply survival or leisure activities. Integral to the programme is its physical and conceptual separation from the school routine, taking place over an extended period of time, in often natural environments.

The programme is founded on holistic principles where students’ physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual needs are challenged and developed. The learning goals are achieved by an experiential approach where learning by doing provides for the interaction of existing knowledge and new experiences. It enables the students to gain a better understanding of themselves, accept individual responsibility and differences, show initiative and leadership and succeed in simple learning situations.

Individual well being is the primary concern throughout the Camps Programme. Through a range of individual challenges and opportunities to take personal risk students are encouraged to develop self reliance. Valuable personal qualities and enhanced self esteem can be learnt naturally through the experiences in the Camps Programme.
