The Foundation

There are several ways in which you can make a tangible and lasting contribution to Ravenswood through your gift.

The Ravenswood Foundation was formed in 1991 to assist in securing the financial future of the school and to support Ravenswood in its dedication to excellence in education for girls.

Representatives of the Old Girls’ Union and the Parents’ Association work together with the Foundation Board to foster financial support for Ravenswood . Like many independent schools, Ravenswood school fees are used to pay for the operating costs of the school and do not include a levy for the use of school assets or provide capital for major projects or upgrades.  As a result, when major building projects are required to maintain the standard of teaching and resources, we rely on the generosity of the Ravenswood Community to help fund and deliver those projects.

The primary focus of the Foundation is to act as a catalyst to mobilise and harness that generosity when it is needed.   Significant gifts from our community have helped to finance some of Ravenswood’s outstanding facilities. Just imagine our school today without:

  • Gillian Mapp Swimming Pool
  • Centenary Centre with its myriad facilities
  • Digital Language Laboratory
  • The Peace Lawn
  • The Strength and Conditioning Centre

The Mabel Fidler Building

The Ravenswood Foundation is working with the school to raise funds to support The Mabel Fidler Building Campaign.  This innovative Resource Centre will provide outstanding facilities for Ravenswood students, including both Junior and Secondary School Libraries.

It has been ten years since our last major appeal and the Mabel Fidler Building is the largest project to take place at Ravenswood in a generation.  It is now time to move forward again to deliver an environment for our students that is engaging, innovative and flexible, allowing for collaborative and individual learning, enabling girls to succeed to the very best of their ability.  For more about this exciting development and how you can help Ravenswood realise this vision for the future please click here.

The Strength & Conditioning Centre

This fundraising project received overwhelming interest and support from the school community. Over $400,000 was raised to fully fund the Strength and Conditioning Centre which was opened on 1 May 2005.

Thank you to the Ravenswood Parents’ Association and the Ravenswood Old Girls' Union for their generous gifts, and all those who have given to the project through Dads’ Big Night Out, Annual Giving and other gifts.

The Global Experience Programme

A current focus of the Foundation is the provision of scholarships to support the Global Experience Programme, which are funded through very generous donations from parents and members of the wider community.

Ravenswood is committed to providing choices and contributing to the development of globally aware young women. Our Global Experience Programme incorporates student exchanges with highly regarded schools in Canada, England, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand and the USA.

This programme also embraces Cultural and Performing Arts tours, national and overseas study opportunities and international community service programmes. The latter is a major focus for the creativity, action, service (CAS) requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma; a choice available at Ravenswood.

The global choices available at Ravenswood enhance the development of a spirit of open-mindedness, discovery and self reliance, as well as life skills, independence, confidence, tolerance and the experience of different cultures.

As a part of the commitment to ensure these programmes are available to all students, these scholarships are awarded to students who, for financial reasons, may not be in a position to take up a Global Experience Programme opportunity.

Australian Independent Schools’ USA Foundation

Ravenswood continues to maintain an affiliation with the Australian Independent Schools’ USA Foundation which was incorporated in the United States in 2006 and has been granted tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) status by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

This means that should you wish to support the school financially and receive a USA tax deduction for your gift, you are able to do so through the scheme available through this Foundation. Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible for US taxpayers and may be of benefit to Canadians with US tax liability.  Twice a year the Foundation awards grants to Australian Schools.

Ravenswood is now one of seventeen schools in Australia to retain affiliation with this Foundation. I invite you to visit the Foundation's website at http://aisusafoundation.com. Or contact Marilyn Rickard on 02 94989845 or mrickard@ravenswood.nsw.edu.au for further information.
