Music Ensembles

Music provides a wide variety of musical ensembles and performance experiences for girls at Ravenswood. Girls from Years 3-12 can gain experience in any one of the ensembles, such as concert bands, orchestras, Stage bands, choirs, vocal ensembles or chamber groups.

These ensembles perform throughout the year at school and community functions and local eisteddfods.

Private Tuition

Ravenswood provides a private music tuition service for students who wish to learn instrument or voice with a music tutor. These lessons occur during the school day on a rotation system. Students are able to enter exams such as AMEB through the school.


Music Events

There are a number of musical events throughout the year which showcase the girls’ talents. These include:

  • Ravenswood Presents… This is a contemporary music competition for vocalists or ensembles wishing to perform in pop/rock or jazz genres. The girls compete in a week of heats to be selected for a large finalist concert which is professionally produced.
  • The Choral Festival involves every girl in the Senior and Middle schools as part of the House Choir competition along with members of the Junior School Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir, Middle School Vocal ensemble and Senior Vocal ensemble.
  • Cabaret Night - This year’s cabaret night is a tour of Music theatre in the 20th Century.
  • This event combines music, dance and drama.
  • Chamber Concerts - There are a number of chamber concerts throughout the year which highlight the girls who work weekly in small ensembles. These students reach a high level of musicianship and perform at a variety of other school events throughout the year.
  • Showcase Concerts The showcase concerts display a range of ensembles and soloists in the Music Department. These include the orchestras, concert bands choirs, chamber groups and Stage bands. These concerts provide a wide variety of musical entertainment.
  • Solo Concerts The department currently provides solo concert opportunities for Junior School students and is currently looking towards providing similar concerts for Middle School and Senior students.

Music Theatre

The Junior School presents an annual Year 6 musical and musical for Years 3 and 4 bi-annually.

A Christmas concert is a presented by students in K–2 for parents and the Golden Girls at the end of Term 4.

The Secondary School presents a musical in alternate years to the Rock Eisteddfod. In the past, these have included Little Shop of Horrors and Beauty and the Beast. The musicals incorporate all aspects of the performing arts.
