Tudor House

From the House Patron

What does it mean to be Purple?

Purple is the colour of good judgment. It is the colour of people seeking spiritual fulfilment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colours, purple is believed to be the ideal colour. Then it is no wonder that Tudor House is so dynamic and multi-talented.

Tudor competes in all house activities with enthusiasm and house spirit, led by their very capable house leaders for 2008. It was fantastic to see their efforts rewarded with a win in Inter house Tennis, Softball and Gymnastics so far this year.

As well as competing in many activities throughout the year, Tudor organise events to raise money for a charity. The charity Tudor are supporting for 2008 is Opportunity International. Opportunity International uses a business and entrepreneurial approach that supports individuals and communities to overcome poverty. They recognise that people of low socio-economic status have myriad needs not exclusively financial. In response they provide a range of non- financial enterprise development services that ensure their needs are being met at a holistic level.

Go Tudor!

2008 Captain’s Review

2008 has proved that Tudor is obviously the best House! Whether we’re singing or swimming and coming first or last we still managed to knock over the other Houses with our incredible Tudor Spirit!

The year began with a bang at Dance Festival. Dance Captain Caitlin Hodgson whipped up an incredible routine on global warming. Thanks to Caity for her humour and patience whilst making us look like we were straight out of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.

The summer holidays saw a tie-dying frenzy as the Tudor Hippy costumes were born. The Hippies made their first appearance at the Swimming Carnival, an amazing day that saw most Tudorians take a splash and loose their voice. A follow up appearance was made at the Athletics carnival and fourth place definitely didn’t reflect our spirit.
Who could forget Inter-House Gym, when Tudor took ‘Ravo to the Circus’? Thanks to everyone who jumped in, gymnasts or not. Caitlin Hodgson and Brianna Copper are simply the best, creating a first place performance.

Not only can Tudor cartwheel, but we can also sing! Lauren Benson, Music Captain, had the whole House under control and having fun from the first Choral Festival rehearsal. Her brilliant conducting skills certainly left me feeling like ‘I’ve got the music in me!’
The sporting field is where Tudor dominated; coming first in tennis and softball and second in basketball and cricket. None of this would have been possible without our Sports Captain, Lauren Ryan, who was a key organiser, supporter and player.
Sometimes it can be tough to find people to debate at Inter-House, but not when you are in Tudor. Debating Captain, Shriya Narula, had too many debaters! A brilliant effort was put in by all with Shriya providing flawless case lines which left the other Houses stumped.

A huge thanks to Emma Leyton, Social Service Captain, who inspired all Tudorians to rake in money through cake stalls, barbeques and movie nights, to support our House charity ‘Operation International’.

Miss Knox, House Patron, made my job a whole lot easier, organising barbeques and relay teams and always in her purple top.

Where would I have been without the Year 12 Tudor gang? They were always happy to illegally fill in for Year 8 relay teams and sing as loud as they could, no matter how off tune, in House Choir rehearsals. From Dance prelims to Ravo Presents heats, you guys have made my year the best.

To all the other Tudorians; you are all the greatest champions and I appreciate every House point you begged your teachers for. We'll take Windsor down one day!
To the House Captains of 2009, good luck and have fun leading the most amazing House, I'm sure you'll be awesome!
