Virtuoso Australian Jazz musician, James Morrison, will stage three hours of workshops with Ravenswood musicians, culminating in a collaborative evening
performance at the school on Friday 16 September at 7pm. Tickets are available at https://www.trybooking.com/MTVU.
The concert will include the songs What a Wonderful World, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Bugler’s Holiday. Mr Morrison
will solo on most of the pieces, while the students will play alongside musicians from his James Morrison Academy Band.
Ravenswood students receive regular opportunities to work with and play alongside industry professionals who are active in their fields. In 2016 they
collaborated with The Beatnix and The Idea of North.
James Morrison has played for the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, American Presidents, George Bush and Bill Clinton. He has recorded with
The London Symphony and guest-starred with artists as diverse as Phil Collins, Chaka Khan and INXS.
Ravenswood’s instrumental ensembles are named for well-known Australian musicians and comprise the Morrison Band, the Sculthorpe Band and the Burrows
Band. The Ravenswood Burrows Band not long ago played for Don Burrows in the nursing home where he now lives, as James Morrison himself has done. The
two musicians’ relationship was recently featured on ABC Television’s Australian Story: http://ab.co/2aYkiVV
