Ravenswood has officially opened the Petre Innovation Centre, the school’s new purpose-built hub of scientific and technological learning. The light-filled, flexible and open plan spaces represent the best of contemporary teaching design and reflect Ravenswood’s commitment to STEM and the expansion of scientific opportunities for young women. The building was named after former Ravenswood father and long-time community member, Daniel Petre, a leader in the Australian technology industry and founding partner of the technology-focused venture capital company AirTree. ‘All girls’ schools like Ravenswood carry a greater responsibility to encourage and prepare larger numbers of young women for Science careers,’ said Ravenswood Principal, Mrs Johnstone. In his speech, Mr Petre focused on the growing importance of an innovation mindset: ‘Not being complacent with how things are done today but rather focusing on how they can be done better and how we can produce better outcomes for all,’ he said.
