Legal Studies

Add to Favourites
Legal Studies is offered as an elective in Years 11–12 for the Higher School Certificate (HSC). The course is taught by teachers who have previously practised law as solicitors or barristers. The program offered is challenging and rewarding, drawing heavily on contemporary legal cases, with up to date issues and events regularly discussed.

In Year 11, students develop their knowledge of legal concepts and how the law functions in Australian society and in international contexts. This provides the necessary foundations for their understanding of the HSC topics of Crime, Family Law, Global Environmental Protection and World Order. Students are educated as future citizens with a keen sense that the law, in the words of Michael Kirby AC CMG, ‘must be just and modern’. They finish the course with a well developed ability to show how the law encourages cooperation and resolves conflict, as well as initiating and responding to change.
