The Ravenswood Year 8 debating team is through to the Grand Final of the Archdale Debating Competition after beating Meriden School in the semi-final.
The girls’ knowledge of international relations was tested with the topic: That Australia should pay developing countries to reduce rates of pollution.
Opening up for the affirmative, Darcy argued about the negative effects of pollution and the positive impact that investment can have on a country.
Danielle spoke eloquently about our moral responsibility and the global effects of increased pollution. Katherine
finished by meticulously pulling apart the argument 'that Australia should solve its own problems before helping others'. She outlined the solutions
Australia already has in place and the systemic way that targeted investment can help developing countries. In the fourth speaker role, Kei assisted
and refined her teammates’ arguments. The girls will take on SCEGGS next week.
