International Women’s Day at Ravenswood

The Ravenswood School for Girls community came together on Tuesday 11 March to celebrate International Women’s Day, with several initiatives from students highlighting the incredible and inspiring achievements of women and reaffirming the positive impact of the ‘RAVO sisterhood’.

Ravenswood students were greeted by Principal Dr Anne Johnstone at the newly refurbished Gate 1 and gifted a purple heart chocolate to inspire an impactful day, while a playlist of empowering female songs reverberated throughout the campus.

Senior School Assembly was an opportunity for students to learn about some of the important work being conducted in relation to International Women’s Day. With the theme ‘Accelerate Action’, Dr Johnstone began by highlighting remarkable women trailblazers through history. Student Leaders presented a video montage of Ravenswood students nominating various women who inspire them, which complimented their 2025 Prefect theme of the year of Time to Inspire: Unite Our Fire. As the recipient of the 2024 Gail Kelly Making a Difference Award, Year 12 student Ava also used IWD and the Senior School Assembly to raise further awareness of her chosen charity, RizeUp Australia – a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting families affected by domestic and family violence

Ava then joined fellow Year 12 students Alicia and Holly to lead an inspiring Q&A panel with Dr Johnstone, Ravenswood psychologist Mrs Penelope Moussa, and Andrea Koch, the Chief Product Marketing officer for ExoFlare, an Australian company that provides Biosecurity Threat Management solutions to food producers and their supply chains. The panel shared impactful insights on a number of important IWD themes.

Ava also collaborated with Tiny House Australia who provided Ravenswood with an empty tiny house on campus. Over three days, students, staff and families came together to donate and fill the house with hundreds of new essential items for families in need. The School community donated over 700 items more than $8000 of much needed household appliances, equipment and essential goods for families impacted by domestic violence. Taylor construction company also donated a number of pallets of goods to support the important cause.

Social Justice students also hosted a BBQ fundraiser with students making a difference and raising an additional $1400 of much needed funds for RizeUp Australia.
