The Ravenswood Institute was established in 2016 with the introduction of a Ravenswood Fellowship Award to support our teachers to access some of the best professional educational training and development in the world.
Today, through the Fellowship Award and other avenues, the Institute provides teachers with opportunities for further study that can enable them to explore areas of passion, further develop innovative learning environments, or create new teaching and learning resources.
The Institute also provides teachers with an innovative, multifaceted, cross-department Professional Learning Program.
Fellowships, Partnerships and Research Grants
Fellowships, partnerships and research grants have seen staff travel interstate and overseas – including to embrace opportunities at Ivy League institutions such as Stanford, MIT and the University of Pennsylvania.
Recently, teachers have participated in programs with the UNSW School of Education and the University of Queensland’s Science of Learning Research Centre. Other staff attended the STEM Project-Based Learning Design Camp in San Diego and LIFE2023 – Lapland International Forum for Education.
Such experiences expand teachers’ knowledge and skills, allowing them to enrich the educational landscape at Ravenswood by bringing back fresh insights and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Professional Learning Program
Comprising individual and school-wide initiatives, Ravenswood’s Professional Learning Program (PLP) prioritises student engagement, staff excellence, evidence-based practices, global perspectives and technological innovation to create inclusive learning environments.
The multifaceted, cross-department program aims to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes in 12 thematic areas. Derived from extensive surveys and discussions, and aligned with the School’s Strategic Plan, these thematic areas include AI in Education, Gifted and Talented, and STEM.
Cross-department PLP teams meet twice a term to set goals, conduct research, collaborate on instructional design, implement strategies and reflect on outcomes.
Initiatives foster collaboration and peer-learning and promote research-driven pedagogy. They also help teachers and teams to integrate cutting-edge research with Australian universities and from overseas institutions into classroom practices.
RIPLS
The Institute also produces RIPLS – the Ravenswood Institute Professional Learning Series journal.
The publication features insightful, well-researched articles by Ravenswood teachers and leaders about professional development, local and international innovations in teaching and learning – and their application in the Ravenswood context.
