Transition Into Senior School

To help each student develop a deep connection to all aspects of Senior School life with their peers, students in Year 6 are prepared throughout the year for the exciting transition into Senior School.

Ravenswood takes a community approach to the transition, providing various structured programs, mentoring and buddy programs to help facilitate networks and friendships with students in Senior School.

Students become familiar with the layout of Senior School through their Junior School classes that take place in the shared state-of-the-art facilities for Visual Arts, Science, PDHPE and Music.

During Terms 3 and 4, as part of preparing for Senior School, Year 6 students transition to storing books in lockers. Students’ personal organisation skills, initiative and responsibility for their own learning is embraced and encouraged to ensure that they are prepared for Senior School lessons.

Co-curricular commitments are also encouraged, as coupled with the rigour of the Year 6 curriculum, this helps build academic resilience to the increased workload in Year 7 and beyond.

Prefects are assigned to each Year 6 class, and visit fortnightly to conduct meaningful conversations, in an informal atmosphere, about the middle and senior years.

Year 7 Orientation

The bespoke Ravenswood orientation program, for Ravenswood Year 6 students as well as those new to the School, familiarises students with various aspects and expectations of Senior School and supports them to settle in to their new environment.

The program helps students start their first week of classes feeling confident, prepared and settled through a range of orientation sessions including Foundations for Success, Digital Habits to Thrive, Study Skills and The Path to Wellbeing.

Year 7 Camp is also scheduled early in Term 1 to support the process of forging new friendships, building a growth mindset, and fostering teamwork and collaboration.
