On Friday 5 September, every student from Prep to Year 12 gathered with staff to celebrate the Ravenswood sisterhood, community and the semper ad meliora RAVO spirit on Love RAVO Day.
Grace – the word of the year – formed the focus, represented by butterflies as an enduring symbol of grace, kindness and gentleness. ‘This year Love RAVO Day was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how we can practice Grace in growth, including expressing gratitude, sparking joy, and actualising kindness, both in ourselves and towards each other,’ says Ms Guy.
Students arrived at Gate 1 and were greeted with uplifting music and brightly coloured heart-shaped butterflies installed throughout the campus gardens. Acting Principal Ms Sarah Guy and School Leaders gifted students and staff with a special Love RAVO Day butterfly Grace keyring to launch the special day.
House and Social Justice Prefects also collected gold coin donations from students, raising much needed funds and making a difference for the charity Compassion towards their Cambodia Mums and Bubs program.
Students from Prep to Year 12 gathered with staff in their school Houses to create beautiful House-coloured Grace butterflies. Ms Guy and School Captain Zara West visited each House, encouraging students to reflect on actualising Grace through Positive Education and wellbeing strategies.
With warm RAVO Spirit, Senior School students supported Junior School students to create over 1500 individual butterflies with inspiring messages of Grace. The students’ butterfly creations were installed on the Peace Lawn and Mabel’s Café windows, creating a beautiful Grace Butterfly Garden and inspirational murals.
‘The kaleidoscope of butterflies is a powerful symbolic representation of how practising Grace gives us the courage to fly onwards together, creating an uplifting ripple effect across our whole school community,’ says Ms Guy.
The Prefect and Student Representative Council Spirit Week, held in the lead-up to Love RAVO Day, featured a variety of colourful student-led activities to boost House spirit and foster connectedness among Ravenswood students.
