Music plays a major part in our everyday lives. It exists all around us on the radio, television and internet, in the movies, shopping centres, church and in the family home. Music is a universal language and allows people to communicate beyond words.
At Ravenswood, students study music through learning experiences that harness their creative capacity and the expression of their individual perceptions when performing, composing and listening. Music enriches the educational experiences of students by fostering confident self-expression, encouraging creative and innovative thinking and promoting community and being involved.
In Secondary School, students have the opportunity to explore music through a range of curricular and co-curricular programs.
Music is part of the core curriculum in Years 7–8 and is an elective in Years 9–10. In Year 11–12, Music is offered in both the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
In addition to the curriculum, there is a wide variety of co-curricular Music programs, available to students of all ages and all levels of ability. Co-curricular programs provide students with the opportunity to build confidence, and is the perfect introduction to rehearsing and performing as part of an ensemble.
