NSW State Age Swimming Championships

Seventeen Ravenswood girls competed at the NSW State Age Swimming Championships for the Ravenswood Swimming Club in individual and relay events against the best swimmers in New South Wales.

In the 13–18 Years State Championships the Club finished eighth out of 87 clubs, remarkable for a small club.

Olivia, Year 12, has won the 16 Years 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle races for the past four consecutive years, a tremendous achievement. Congratulations to our other medal winners; Rosie, Year 8, won the 13 Years 100m Butterfly and earned a bronze in the 200m Butterfly, Chloe, Year 7, placed third in the 11 Years 100m Butterfly and our outgoing 2015 Swimming Captain Emily won silver in both the 17–18 Years 100m Backstroke and Butterfly events.

The Club showed its strength in the relays, winning three gold medals, one bronze and achieving top 10 results in a further five relay events. This success is a credit to the ever growing depth of our Ravenswood swimmers.

The highlight was most certainly the two 10 x 50m Freestyle relay events. The 12U team, consisting of Sarah, Year 8, Chloe, Ashley and Phoebe, Year 7, and Charlotte, Year 5, helped the team swim six seconds faster than its entry time to amazingly place tenth out of 23 teams. On the final night of racing, the Open Girls 10 x 50m Relay team won gold for the first time ever. The team featured a number of Ravenswood girls.

Congratulations to the following swimmers for achieving their first ever National Age Qualifying Times: Lucinda, Year 9, in the 200m Fly and 400m IM, Georgie, Year 8, in the 50m Freestyle and Rosie, Year 8, in the 100m and 200m Fly and 50m Freestyle. These girls (and hopefully more to come) along with Emily and Olivia, Year 12, will be competing at the Australian National Age Championships, which are being held in Adelaide during March/April.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed at the NSW State Age Championships. Regardless of their results, simply swimming at the meet in a relay or an individual event is a tremendous achievement.
