Principal Anne Johnstone awarded PhD in Education

Ravenswood is proud to announce that our Principal, Dr Anne Johnstone, has been awarded her PhD in the field of Education from the University of Melbourne, Centre for Wellbeing Science. This notable achievement underscores Dr Johnstone’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and educational leadership, particularly in the field of wellbeing science and education.

In her thesis, titled ‘Wellbeing, prosocial psychological interventions, and developing an other person mindset’, Dr Johnstone pioneered a model for wellbeing which moves beyond a self-focused paradigm, towards a prosocial focus on building the wellbeing of others, which in turn enhances one’s own ability to flourish. Dr Johnstone developed an ‘Other Person Mindset’ (OPM) model based on two empirical studies, a major systematic review and a Delphi study, to address the need to combat loneliness and increase belonging and connection in young people especially.

Dr Johnstone has been commended for making a significant contribution to positive psychology, pushing the field towards a more collective and social direction. Together with her scholarly speaking engagements and related research publications, Dr Johnstone is acknowledged as a leading voice in the field of wellbeing science in education and has achieved international recognition for her ability to translate theoretical insights and thorough research methodology into practical frameworks.

The Ravenswood community would like to warmly congratulate Dr Johnstone on this milestone achievement. As the 10th Principal in her 10th year at Ravenswood, Dr Johnstone’s dedication to fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment has had a profound impact on Ravenswood, an accomplishment recognised beyond the School gates through multiple awards, including as Australian Principal of the Year and Principal of the Year (Non-Government) at the 2024 Australian Education Awards.
