Budding Chess Champion, Annabel (Year 3) has won both the Under 8 Lightning and Problem Solving competitions at the Australian Junior Chess Championships at Swinburne University in Melbourne.

Annabel has been playing chess for little more than a year and says the Australian Junior Chess Championships was like a ‘big party.’ Annabel’s three siblings also play and her father has recently taken up the game. Mother Cindy says chess is a chance for Annabel to make friends, improve her concentration skills and learn to ‘deal with the highs and lows of victory and defeat.’

The seven year old’s next challenge is the Doeberl Cup in Canberra.
