Ravenswood School for Girls, in partnership with Knox Grammar School, is delighted to announce the Knox Grammar School Cadet Unit will be renamed the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit.
Since 40 Ravenswood students first joined the Knox Grammar School Cadet Unit in 2011, our valued collaboration has gone from strength to strength. Ravenswood’s participation has grown to almost 350 students from Years 8-12. The Knox Grammar School Cadet Unit is the largest Cadet Unit in Australia with nearly 1300 cadets. The announcement of the renaming reflects the Ravenswood and Knox Grammar collaborative spirit and commitment to purposeful endeavours as brother-sister schools.
Ravenswood Principal, Mrs Anne Johnstone, says, ‘The announcement of the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit renaming is a proud moment in the history of our School. Since 2011, Ravenswood School for Girls and Knox Grammar School have worked together to provide our Cadet students with the opportunity to learn the benefits of respect, service, leadership, integrity and teamwork, and outdoor education skills. The renaming of the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful shared co-educational opportunities for our students that help them to fulfil their potential and flourish while developing grit and resilience, leadership capacity, and the opportunity to forge lifelong friendships along the way.’
Both Schools’ names and School mottos will be incorporated into the Unit’s updated logo and badge. Likewise, the existing Knox blue and black colours will be extended to incorporate our Ravenswood gold to represent both Schools.
Miss Annabelle Osborne, Second In Command (2IC) of the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit says, ‘As 2IC of the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit, I have seen first-hand the strength, resilience and purpose that our students gain from being involved in the Cadet program. Our students have earned leadership roles within the Unit and are valued, respected members of the Cadet community.’
Abbey Taylor (Year 11), the second ever female Senior Cadet Under Officer (SUO) says, ‘It is such an honour to be named the SUO of the newly re-named Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit, especially as we enter a new era in our alliance with Knox. I look forward to leading and representing the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit to the best of my ability.’
The Presentation of Colours to the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit and Investiture of Senior Rank of the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit will take place at 3.40pm on Knox 1 Oval on Friday 25 October 2024 at Knox Grammar School. The community is welcome to attend.
